Shock-Gard® panels are reused instead of thrown away. Moving freight by rail instead of truck lowers fuel use and emissions.

Circular economy

Circular, not linear

One-way pulp and paper securement materials follow a linear economy: natural resources are taken, made into product, consumed, and dumped as waste.

Shock-Gard panels break that cycle. They are reused, tracked by RFID as an inventory pool, stacked efficiently for the return trip, and handled through reverse logistics facilities.

Rail

Rail vs road

  • 480+ milesMoved per gallon of fuel, per ton of freight, on U.S. freight rail
  • 3–4×More fuel-efficient than trucks, on average
  • up to 75%Lower greenhouse gas emissions than truck freight, on average
  • several hundredTrucks removed from the highway by a single train

Highways

Less congestion, less wear

Shifting freight from road to rail reduces highway congestion and its economic costs. It also reduces highway wear and tear, and the pressure to build costly new highways.
